About

Born Bryn Mawr, PA, 1934

I left the East Coast and migrated to Oregon in 1959, working as an architect, planner & graphic artist in the Portland vicinity until 1990. I retired early to pursue art and take care of my son Toby Spillman when he had an aneurysm.

I love to wander to take photos. I add to the images haiku and poetry. In addition, I paint. In Todos Santos I made paintings by grinding back layers of painton car hoods.

My life has been filled with family. My partner, Freddy Spillman, a wonderful painter and illustrator died in 2023. Together we built an amazing life that allowed us to wander.

In 2024, I turned 90 and am more dedicated to my artistic pursuits than ever.

I would love to show my work in galleries and museums. Please contact me!

This is the latest book that I created for Jim.

I went through his digital photos and ones I’ve taken to create a book about his paintings and studios in Todos Santos, Mexico and Mulino, Oregon, USA.

I asked Jim to write about images on the empty pages in the draft book I sent him. And what I received in the mail was collaged pages. A true one of a kind gem.
